Dr. Talitha Washington is the National President of the Association for Women in Mathematics as well as the Director and Lead Principal Investigator of the National Data Science Alliance and the Director of the Data Science Initiative for the Atlanta University Center Consortium. In addition to these responsibilities, she is a professor at Clark Atlanta University. Her research interests include the applications of differential equations to biology and the development of nonstandard finite difference schemes to numerically solve dynamical systems.
Join us in person to video call Dr. Washington as a group and learn about her career and advice for young mathematicians. |

Title: What connects the melting of ice, a Brazilian favorite dish, and walls?
Abstract: In this talk, we will learn more about free boundary problems, which form a class of partial differential equations that are super cool and challenging to deal with (as usual, nothing is free in life!) We will see examples of such problems and explore techniques used to study them. Part I: General audience math talk (2:00-2:50)
COFFEE BREAK (10 minutes) Part II: Advice for early career mathematicians (3:00-3:20) |
